Some of City Day's older students got a head start on the 2026-2027 school year by participating in late-summer travel experiences.
The trips took place in late August/early September. One trip had City Day volleyball players from the seventh grade honing their skills against teams in Puerto Rico. In the other trip, eighth-graders studied coral reef habitats in the waters off the Florida Keys. In both cases, the students had the opportunity to learn in vibrant new contexts.

The volleyball trip, led by City Day's coaches, included matches against local teams in and around the San Juan area of Puerto Rico. The coaches said the trip helps athletes shake off summer rust and sharpen their skills heading into the school year; the girls' volleyball season begins this fall, and the boys' season begins in the spring.
The trip was also a significant cultural experience, as the students explored the history and culture of Puerto Rico when not playing volleyball, the coaches added.

The coral reef field expedition has been a signature City Day program for more than 20 years. The students spent a week on a Shedd Aquarium research vessel, recording data about local coral reef habitats and sharing their findings with scientists around the world. It's a unique offering for elementary school students; participants often cite the trip as a highlight of their time at City Day.
These trips, and others offered at City Day, underscore the school's belief that learning happens everywhere.
