School spirit makes for warm 5K event

Chicago City Day School students, teachers, and parents celebrated school spirit by lacing up their athletic shoes for the annual City Day 5K Fun Run & Walk.

Nearly 200 people signed up to participate in the fundraising event, which took place on May 17. On that cool, breezy morning, cheers rang out for the walkers and runners alike as they burst out of the starting gate.

The cheers re-erupted as participants approached the finish line, with some of the loudest expressions of support for the youngest runners, including some City Day students in kindergarten!

For the third straight year, the 5K was followed by a celebration of Holi, the Indian Festival of Colors, which marks the arrival of spring and celebrates goodwill among people. City Day students, staff members, and parents coated each other with colored powder, a traditional Holi activity.

Thank you to all the City Day staffers and parents who organized the event and volunteered time to run it — it was a great example of the City Day spirit in action!
