School spirit makes for warm 5K event

The only thing warmer than the weather during the Chicago City Day School 5K Fun Run & Walk was the feeling of community among those who participated.

The annual fundraiser, held on May 18, had more than 100 City Day parents, teachers, students, and alumni walking or running the 5K course in Lincoln Park to support the school.

On a sunny morning with temperatures that reached summer-like levels, cheers rang out for the walkers and runners as they burst out of the starting gate. The cheers re-erupted as participants approached the finish line, with some of the loudest expressions of support for the youngest participants, including some City Day students in junior kindergarten!

For the second straight year, the 5K was followed by a celebration of Holi, the Indian Festival of Colors, which marks the arrival of spring and celebrates goodwill among people. City Day students, staff members, and parents coated each other with colored powder, a traditional Holi activity.

Thank you to all the City Day staffers and parents who organized the event and volunteered time to run it — it was a great example of the City Day spirit in action! See more images from the day below.
