City Day is located at 541 W. Hawthorne Place in the city's vibrant Lakeview East neighborhood. Our 2-acre campus sits just steps from Lake Michigan and multiple CTA stops that connect us to the city's rich cultural attractions. The campus, which we refer to as an "oasis of learning,"  includes a variety of tranquil outdoor learning spaces and feels like a true home-away-from-home for our students. 

City Day’s teachers are caring and passionate, with strong academic backgrounds and extensive experience working with children. The school places the highest premium on the advanced degrees earned by our faculty members. We are fortunate to have a number of teachers who have been part of the community for 15-20+ years, allowing them to develop expertise in our program and build strong relationships with students and families. Our student-centered curriculum is intentionally tailored  to address the unique academic needs, strengths, and interests of each student. For students with strong academic skills, teachers provide individualized, differentiated instruction and mentor students as they stretch themselves and take risks. 
 

City Day is an elementary school by design. We believe that our JK-through-8 model  provides the ideal experience of discovery and growth. Older students are able to act as true leaders and mentors on campus, leading to a transition to high school that itself builds confidence and strengthens character. 

City Day devotes considerable resources to a robust high school placement program that matches graduating students with a variety of schools in Chicago and beyond, including independent, parochial, boarding, and selective-enrollment public high schools. 
 

City Day offers an exciting interscholastic athletics program for all students in grades 5 through 8. Students have the opportunity to participate in boys' and girls' volleyball, soccer, and basketball. There are no "cuts" from City Day teams, ensuring that any student who is interested can play. Our coaches teach game skills while fostering teamwork, resilience, and school spirit among the players.
