The School's industrial technology program begins in the second grade, and the curriculum focuses on theory and applications for the physical world. In the Shorey Shop, students learn to use a variety of tools, hardware, and materials. Investigating models of transportation, power and energy, and construction and manufacturing, students design and build projects. Basic drafting skills are taught throughout grades two through eight. Popular projects include constructing electric circuitry, Rube Goldberg machines, and solar-powered vehicles. Students who graduate from City Day demonstrate confidence and skill in a shop setting.
