Play Day

Play Day, a fun-filled, child-driven environment where children engage in age-appropriate activities and play, is offered to junior and senior kindergartners as an optional extension of the kindergarten day.

Imagination reigns at Play Day! Under the leadership of experienced Chicago City Day School faculty, the School has created in Play Day a joyful, magical environment where boys and girls have rollicking good times. The highest priority is placed on outdoor play and excursions. They roll in the leaves on sunny fall days, make angels in the snow in the winter, and plant vegetables in the spring. The children have full use of the School’s expansive grounds. Those times when the Play Day children choose to be indoors, they “hang out” in a magical “cabin,” designed especially for them. They play with Legos, dress-up togs, puppets, dolls, etc. Each day, youngsters enjoy listening to adults read from enchanting storybooks, the kind that will make them eager to decode words on their own. In short, Play Day affords children ample unscheduled, independent, “non-screen” time to be creative, to reflect, and to decompress.

Participation in Play Day is optional. Parents may choose to enroll their child for any combination of days.
